General Description:
one of the largest birds of prey in the world.
black line behind both of the eyes.
there is a black band on the tip of the tail.
they can be confused with golden eagles at a young age of about 3 or 4 years.
can weigh up to 17 pounds.
7 to 7 and a half foot wing span.
the farther north you go you will find larger bald eagles.
Habitat:
Bald eagles generally nest on high cliffs or trees overlooking large bodies of water or rivers.
they usually do not live anywhere near human facilities of developments.
Why are they threatened?
Water pollution
human development destroying habitats
illegal hunting and poaching
DDT infections
Reproduction:
the females lay 1 to 3 eggs per year
35 day incubation periods
the young are sexually mature at 5 to 6 years of age
